Dear Community:
Our sincerest gratitude goes to you for embracing our mission wholeheartedly to raise funds and help in any way in the purchase of new furniture and equipment for the Rose of Sharon Korean Nursing Home--now in operation. We are enormously proud that we have, as a Korean Canadian Community, achieved our target and delivered this important support for the enjoyment of our seniors living and interacting at the Rose of Sharon.
There is a clear need for more nursing home space and seniors day care centre for the Korean Canadian Community that we believe the time has come for our Community to rally again.
Our current work at Rose of Sharon is tremendously important and has created a community core of volunteers that have been busy developing and delivering programs open to all seniors, made possible with funding by provincial and federal governments.
We visit and listen to isolated seniors, and lead activities, such as drumming, dance, music, karaoke, art, chess, knitting, cooking, decorating, soap making, photography, exercise, Seniors Day celebrations, as well as introduce abuse awareness and prevention, communications technology literacy, volunteer training and matching--anything and all to help bring energy to seniors that experience depression, diminished desire to live, and low spirits.
Seniors spiritual needs are met with regular non-denominational worship services and visits to nursing home seniors, as well as counselling and visitations to seniors preparing for a final round of the life journey.
We thank our generous financial donors and volunteers, community leaders, spiritual leaders, Korean consulate general, Province of Ontario, and New Horizons for Seniors Program, for sustained support of these important programs.
Mugungwha Homes calls upon Korean Canadians to build upon our legacy of community care: a new Seniors Day Centre providing respite care where Seniors can gather and socialize for during daytime hours with a Korean diet and assisted by Korean speaking staff--allowing family caregivers to do other things during the day.
We ask the Community to pay special attention and give generously to this new project Mugungwha Day Care Centre being planned and to be operated by the Korean Canadian Community.
As a senior, a grandmother, a pastor, and a friend, I ask for your continued interest and support of our seniors. Join us today to help build this vitally needed project to serve our Community in the long term.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
Rev. Moon Yoon
Mugungwha Homes President
